What is Charisma?
A special quality that some people have naturally that makes them able to influence other people and attract their attention and admiration – Cambridge Dictionary
Some characteristics of a charismatic person can include:
- Charm
- Magnetism
- Strong interpersonal connections to influence and inspire others
- Compelling Vision
Why is charisma important?
It helps you to develop sustainable relationships, because when you’re charismatic, people feel you understand them. This leads to them being happy to work with and help you as much as possible.
What is so useful about charisma?
Charisma is closely related to assertiveness, which we all need, if only for defensive reasons.
It is not just about showing off, introverts can be charismatic too.
A strong charismatic presence is useful for:
- Leading
- Teaching
- Selling
- Speaking
- Relationships of all sorts
- Interviews
Who wouldn’t want to be charismatic?
Charisma is powerful - charismatic people can often make others do as they wish, influencing people to think differently and sometimes negatively. Charisma in the wrong hands can be catastrophic.

Everyone can be charismatic
We are not born charismatic – we cultivate it in many ways
One way is by observing and learning from people who you think is charismatic, learn their secrets, and try them for yourself

Be self Confident
- Like yourself
- Be optimistic, just try keep your glass half full 🍌
- Be euthiastic, "my life will be a success" 😊
- Be comfortable with who you are
- Be consistent
- Be proud of who you are

Tell great stories
- Speak with conviction
- Use words like "I am sure", "I know"
- Try not to use word like "I think", "I hope", "I feel" too often, imagine if you visited your GP and he said "I think and hope you make a full recovery", it would not fill you with confidence
- Use humour, it is okay to make fun of yourself sometimes, but don't put yourself down so much that it takes away from who you are
- Be relevant, know whats happening in the world around you, people want to be with people who are knowledgable

- Be open and approachable, gracious and graceful
- Walk up to someone, smile and make eye contact, shake hands and introduce yourself
- Don't overdo it, when you smile be authentic

- Put other at ease and make them feel comfortable with you
- Show genuine interest in the person you are talking to, giving them your full attention
- Don't make the conversation all about you. Even if you've had a similar experience, let them have their moment
- Recognise and acknowledge other people's achievements and contributions

Be a good listener
- Always try to remember someones name (try saying it back to enforce it)
- Listen with interest when someone talking
- Pay attention to a conversation
- Engage with the person/people in the conversation
- Be empathetic to points brought up
